Open Source and Free Softwares are awesome
Open Source Software : softwares code is public and can be inspected and modified by anyone. It replaces closed-system’s blind trust with transparency and user control.
Video editing, photo editing, 3D modelling, sound design, hobbies and professions that a lot of software which can cost an insane amount of money.
Here’s a little list of the good software that I just think are neat.
Blender - One of my hands down favourite softwares I’ve ever used. Current 3D software markets are incredibly uninviting and uses offers to lure you into their specific softwares’ workflow. Market softwares can range between thousands of pounds for monthly subscriptions, to token based usage (paying for each time you open). Blender does none of this, and is completely free. Not only can you model designs for a reasonably small storage size, but if you were so inclined, you could probably use this software as a video editor, though workflows can be difficult. It’s an incredibly friendly and reliable software that I can’t recommend high enough. Love it. It’s the only 3D software I use to make my stupid little 3D projects and it doesn’t cost me a penny for the hobby.
Audacity - one of the most famous free softwares to use. A reliable audio recording station. Beginner friendly, straightforward, beloved.
Onlyoffice / LibreOffice - A fantastic alternative to the microsoft office suite, and with management alternating their softwares every month or so and that awful and confusing AI named program (im not naming one for self respect and two because they’ll probably change its name tomorrow), now is the best time to have a localised software suite that costs nothing and allows you to use spreadsheets, slides usage, and document writing.
OBS - A screen recorder. It may have a slight first day speed-bump to integrate the softwares settings to your computers best settings, but once over that, its a free recording software and can be very useful for research and asset collection.
GIMP Photo Editor - An image editor a little less sophisticated than Photoshop, but you won’t be paying a monthly subscription, in fact, no payment at all, a net positive to your wallet.
